to other parts of India by air travel. There are quite a few Airports in
Tamil Nadu and which are dotted in various regions of the state. Airports in
Tamil Nadu include both the domestic and international airport
Tamil Nadu has seven airports such as :
Chennai International Airport:

Chennai, the state capital has one International airport of Tamil Nadu
state. Chennai International Airport is considered among the third busiest
airport of India after Delhi and Mumbai. It is also the second largest cargo
hub after Mumbai. This International airport handles near about 12 million
passengers and serve more than 25 airlines. The airport is connected to 19
countries and has more than 169 direct flights every week.
Location: It is located along Meenambakkam and Tirusulam, just 7 km
away from Chennai.
Terminals: Chennai International Airport has three terminals. The
old terminal at Meenambakkam is used for cargo, while the new passenger
terminal complex at Tirusulam is used for passenger operations. The
passenger terminal complex consists of the domestic and international
terminals interconnected by a link building. Domestic flights operate from
the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal (KDT), while the Anna International Terminal
(AIT) is for international flights.
Coimbatore Airport:

Coimbatore Airport is another International airport of the state. In the
year 1940, Coimbatore Airport has started its operation as a civil
aerodrome. But, in its early days, services were mainly to Chennai and
Mumbai. Later services to Cochin and Bengaluru were added. In 1995, Indian
Airlines has started its international services to Sharjah, and in 2007
operations were started to the international destinations of Colombo and
Singapore. 8 airlines operates to various International and National
locations such as Sharjah, Singapore, Colombo, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad,
Kozhikode, Kochi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore.
Location: Coimbatore Airport is located at Peelamedu, about 13 km
from the Coimbatore city centre.
Terminals: Coimbatore airport has one fully construct terminal and
one under construction.
Madurai Airport:

Madurai
Airport is a domestic as well as an international airport of the state. It
is served by several airlines that link it to major cities in southern and
western India. Four famous airlines of our country operates from Madurai
such as Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Paramount
Airlines which connects Madurai to Chennai, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
Location: Madurai Airport is located about 13 km from the
Madurai railway station.
Tiruchirapalli Airport:

Tiruchirapalli Airport or Trichy Airport is a major airport mostly serving
Tiruchirapalli and adjacent districts in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It
is a public airport and serves mainly International and National locations
like Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kaula Lampur, Dubai, Singapore, colombo and Chennai
respectively. Six different airlines operates from Trichy Airport to these
aforementioned destinations.
Location: Tiruchirapalli Airport is just 5 km from city centre.
Salem Airport:

Salem airport is another domestic airport of Tamil Nadu. It serves Salem
city and the districts of Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and parts of Erode.

and just 20 km from the Salem city centre.

operates.

Vellore Airport:
